Anyone that knows me knows that I love cars. I can practically pick out any car on the road. So naturally, the North American International Auto Show in Detroit is going to be one of my favorite events of the year. Here are some of my impressions from the show this year.
The star of the show and probably what most people came to see this year: the unveiling of the brand new C7 Corvette Stingray. I was fortunate enough to see this car a while ago when it was still in development, but it looks even better now. The newest Corvette was redesigned from the ground up, inside and out. As I’m a big fan of exotic imports, I noticed Chevy’s designers definitely took some design cues from some of the Italian automakers. The result is spectacular! It will come with a 6.2L V8 similar to the current model, but will be the quickest base-model Corvette ever built, with a 0-60 mph time estimated at less than 4.0 seconds!

Next is my personal favorite of the show, the new Ferrari F12 Berlinetta. Whoever said you should save the best for last has never been in close contact with this beast of a car. With a 0-62 mph time of 3.1 seconds and top speed of 211 mph, the newest addition to the Ferrari family will also be the latest addition to my list of dream cars (in red of course).

This next car has been at the Auto Show the last couple of years, but it’s still a crowd-pleaser. The Acura NSX is one concept I really hope gets put into production.

The BMW exhibit is one I always make sure I pass through. This year I was not disappointed. The company was premiering the new Z4 sDrive 35i. I also thought their i8 electric concept car was pretty nifty-looking.

One of the best exhibits this year wasn’t just because of the cars. Volkswagon turned their entire exhibit into what I’ll call ‘Club VW’. With a DJ spinning house music, flashing lights, a smoke machine, and girls dancing up on platforms, it felt like you were walking into a nightclub in Munich, but with a few cars here and there. It was quite a memorable experience.

My award for goofiest looking car of the show goes to the Smart Forstars. I can’t say I’ve ever been a fan of any of the Smart cars, but this takes it to a whole new level. See what you think.

Did you have a chance to attend the Detroit Auto Show this year? What were your favorites?

Hey Nick, some great shots…loved that BMW. I too was at the NAIAS…pretty amazing. Here’s my recap if you’re interested: http://www.mikesroadtrip.com/highlights-of-the-2014-north-america-international-auto-show
Thanks Mike. That’s cool that you went with Ford, but to be honest I wasn’t that impressed with anything they had there.
One thing that impressed me was how they shaved 700lbs off the F-150…this accomplishment will surely improve fuel efficiency. We also got to see the Mustang that is featured in “Need for Speed…”wow, was it cool!
