Are You Living Your Legend?

Scott Dinsmore

You never know when you’re going to get that message.

That message that you never expected.

The one that shatters a small part of your world, informing you that someone who has been a major inspiration in your life for the past few years has suddenly and unexpectedly disappeared from this earth.

I’m deeply saddened by the fact that Scott Dinsmore passed away last weekend due to an unfortunate accident while hiking Mount Kilimanjaro, living his legend. He and his wife had been doing a world tour for most of this year, traveling and meeting lots of people in the Live Your Legend Local communities he created and helped to foster around the globe.

Some of you may have known Scott or have been involved in his Live Your Legend community of people changing their lives to do work they love. The first time I met Scott was 2 summers ago at the annual World Domination Summit in Portland. I remember he didn’t ask me ‘What do you do?’ or anything superficial like that.

He asked me a simple question that has had a huge impact on my life ever since:

‘What are you excited about?’

When you really ponder this question, you start to challenge your current life priorities and think on a larger scale. Am I happy on my current trajectory? What kind of impact am I currently having? What kind of impact do I want to have on the world? What do I want to be remembered for?

Scott believed that together, we could all change the world by doing work we loved, work that matters to us and surrounding ourselves with the people who could help make it possible. His passion was contagious.

Although I met Scott a couple different times, I really wish I had the opportunity to connect more with him.

Now more than ever we have a responsibility, to Scott and to ourselves, to go out and make an impact in this world and keep his legacy moving forward. The question you need to ask yourself is this:

What is the work that you can’t not do?

What are you so excited to work on that you jump out of bed in the morning and work on until all hours of the night? What is that passion that burns inside you? You may not have discovered it yet, but it’s there, waiting to be unleashed on the world.

Here’s one of his favorite song quotes that sums up how Scott lived:

“When I leave this world, I’ll leave no regrets.

Leave something to remember so they won’t forget. I was here.”

So I challenge you to go out, do epic shit, and change people’s lives like Scott did. You never know how long you have.

RIP Scott. You were an inspiration to us all.
