Sailing on a Galway Hooker

Galway Hooker Boat

During my recent trip to Ireland, one of the highlights of the trip was having the opportunity to sail on an old Galway hooker. These single-masted boats were traditionally used for fishing in Galway Bay. The water was a bit choppy the afternoon we went out, so it made for a bit of a wild ride!

Sitting near the front of the boat had its perks. A few times I got to assist the captain in changing the direction of the sails. Since the conditions were a bit rough, this happened quite often.

I had a great time sailing on Galway Bay. I definitely think this peaked my interest in sailing and it might be something I explore further in the future.

Disclosure: This sailing trip was part of a blogger trip and was provided at no charge to us. However, as always, all opinions are my own.
